A US Secret Service employee was robbed at gunpoint in Tustin, California President Biden was in the state Saturday night for a glitzy fundraiser in Los Angeles.

According to Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi, the Secret Service member was returning from a work assignment and fired his service weapon during the robbery, but it is “unknown if the attackers were hit,” Guglielmi said. The employee was not injured. The Secret Service said the criminal investigation remains open and active. Scripps News first reported the robbery.

A source familiar with the investigation said the Secret Service officer was operating in support during Mr. Biden's trip to California, but was off-duty at the time of the incident and not part of the agency's protective detail. Mr. Biden.

Tustin police said officers responded to a call about the robbery just after 9:30 p.m. and discovered the Secret Service employee's bag had been stolen at gunpoint and confirmed an officer-involved shooting had occurred.

The department said the suspects have not yet been located, but there is no known threat to the public. A silver 2004-2006 Infiniti was seen leaving the area where the robbery occurred, and police are seeking the public's help in identifying the perpetrators. Since the robbery, some of the victim's belongings have been found by officers.

Democrats rose a record $30 million over the weekend at the Los Angeles event, which included a moderated conversation with President Biden and former President Obama, and an array of stars including Julia Roberts, Barbra Streisand, Sheryl Lee Ralph, George Clooney, Jason Bateman and Jimmy Kimmel.
