The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) recently installed “googly eyes” on five of its trains, after a public campaign requested the additions.
“After receiving public suggestions, our team found a safe way to install these ‘googly’ eyes on a limited number of vehicles — five to be exact — as part of our ongoing effort to bring moments of joy to our riders’ daily commutes,” Joe Pesaturo, director of communications for the MBTA, told Fox News Digital on Friday, June 28, via email.
The new additions to the trains are one of many “creative ways” the MBTA is trying to improve the rider experience, Pesaturo said.

He noted that the agency has also organized “musical performances on the stations and voice-over announcements for children.”
“We hope these initiatives, combined with the dedication of our transit ambassadors and the hard work of our employees on infrastructure improvements, continue to be a source of connection in the community and brighten someone's day,” he said.

The crazy eyes can currently be seen on select Green Line trains and the MBTA commuter rail.
The idea to add a very unusual accessory to the MBTA trains came from John Sanchez and Arielle Lok, two Massachusetts residents and MBTA travelers.

“This vision aims to bring a sense of fun to the daily commute. That's the sole purpose of the eyes. There's no hidden or underlying message. We just want googly eyes on the T,” she said.

In an email shared with Fox News Digital, Lok called the installation of the googly eyes “the best news we’ve ever received in our inbox.”
She said: “We're glad there was a safe way to stick the eyes on.”
