Former First Lady Michelle Obama announced Friday that her mother, Marian Louis Shields Robinson, has died.
She was 86.
“She passed away peacefully this morning, and at this point none of us know exactly how we will move forward without her,” the Obamas said.
Michelle Obama's mother lived in the White House for eight years during Obama's presidency.
“Marian Lois Shields Robinson – our mother, mother-in-law and grandmother – had a way of summing up the truths about life in a few words, perhaps a short sentence that made everyone around her pause. Her wisdom seemed almost innate, like something she was born with, but in reality it was hard-earned, shaped by her deep understanding that the roughest edges of the world could always be sanded away with a little grace. -Barack Obama wrote in a Medium post.
