Fresh Air Weekend highlights some of the best interviews and reviews from the past few weeks, as well as new programming elements tailored specifically to the weekend. Our weekend show emphasizes interviews with writers, filmmakers, actors and musicians, and often includes excerpts from live concerts in the studio. This week:
Yo-Yo Ma on 'touching infinity' through his almost 300 year old cello, Petunia: About 25 years ago, acclaimed cellist Yo-Yo Ma asked a high school student to help him name his instrument. He brings his 18e century cello – also known as 'Petunia' – after the Fresh air studio for music and conversation.
Actor Griffin Dunne relives his Hollywood youth in 'The Friday Afternoon Club': In a new memoir, Dunne writes about growing up in a family of storytellers, his complicated relationship with fame and the trauma the family experienced after the murder of his sister Dominique in 1982.
