Gunshots fired near teenage rowers during California races (VIDEO) | The Gateway expert

West Sacramento Police are currently investigating a shooting incident that occurred near a group of teenage rowers.

The incident happened two weeks ago on the Sacramento River during a teen rowing race.

According to KTVUthree gunshots were fired near a group of teenagers completing the final leg of their rowing race.

The sound of three gunshots could be heard in a video of the incident captured by one of the teen's parents.

The video also shows the bullets making three splashes near the boat.

Fred Akkerman, the parent of one of the rowers, said: “I was quite shocked. I think we all were. It is horrifying to think about the final push of this race – to see and hear it – in these peaceful, green surroundings.”

Police are investigating after gunshots were fired near a group of teenage rowers in the Sacramento area.

The incident happened about two weeks ago on the Sacramento River.

A group of teenagers from the Oakland Strokes were on the boat at the time of the incident.

East Bay parent Fred Ackerman shared with NBC Bay Area the video of another parent's incident. He said his son was rowing on that boat when the shooting happened.

“To be in that situation and see my child being shot at, it's horrible,” he said. “It is absolutely devastating and what I have experienced pales in comparison to what countless families have experienced.”
