Father's Day Gift Guide | The New Yorker

As Father's Day quickly approaches, it's important that we do everything we can to show the men who raised us how grateful we are. That's why we profiled different types of dads and paired them with foolproof gifts.

Business father: This man has thoroughly prepared you for adulthood. He has always been a shining example of what it means to be responsible. Even though he consistently spent more than forty hours a week at work, he never lost sight of what really mattered: his family.

Tech dad: Ever since you were a child, your father has had his finger on the pulse of technology. He's the first person you call when you're having trouble transferring photos of your ex from the cloud to your computer. And he never judged you for catching viruses on your laptop, because he understands the urge to go to a sketchy website to satisfy a curiosity. So what do you get from the man with all the gizmos and gizmos on this planet?

Sporty dad: He taught you how to dribble and the importance of teamwork. It's all thanks to him that you excelled in communicating with others. He may be a tough ass, but he's definitely on your side, as evidenced by the fierce fistfights he got into with the Little League umpires to defend your honor. He shoots. He scores. He cares.

Military father: You can thank this man for your impeccable attitude and your blind loyalty to authority. Yes sir! No sir! Yes sir! No sir! Keep it simple for the dad who doesn't show flashes.

Senator Dad: No one has saved you more times than this man. The lessons you learned about how to move effortlessly through the upper echelons of society are all thanks to him. So where to shop for the gentleman who has access to everything?

Our recommendation: navy blue tie

Outdoors father: This maniac went into the woods just hours after you were born and conveniently decided to resurface just hours before you made a huge sports/music deal. But that's a problem for another day. Today, according to the law, is still his.
