Bragg praises DA office 'did our job' after Trump ruling: 'The jury has spoken'

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg took a victory lap after former President Trump was found guilty on 34 counts, saying his office was “doing our job.”

“I have done my job. Our job is to follow the facts and the law without fear or favor. And that is exactly what we have done here. And what I feel is gratitude to work with phenomenal public servants who do that every day in matters that you all write about.… I did my job. We did our job. The only vote that matters is the jury's vote,” Bragg said Thursday evening.

Bragg charged Trump with 34 counts of falsifying corporate records in the first degree. The jury returned its verdict late Thursday afternoon, finding Trump guilty on all counts.

Trump pleaded not guilty to all charges.

“The twelve everyday jurors promised to make a decision based on the evidence and the law, and the evidence and the law alone. Their deliberations led them to a unanimous conclusion beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant, Donald J. Trump, is guilty of 34 counts of falsifying corporate records in the first degree to conceal a scheme to steal the 2016 election corrupt,” Bragg continued at the news conference, adding that such white-collar crime is “at the heart of what we do at the Manhattan District Attorney's Office. ”

“While this defendant may be unlike any other in American history, we arrived at this trial and ultimately today at this verdict the same way every other case that comes before the courtroom doors does, by the facts and the law to follow and to do so without fear or favour.”

After the jury returned the verdict, Trump also addressed the media, where he vowed to continue fighting for the Constitution and the nation ahead of the 2024 elections.

“This was a rigged, shameful trial. The real verdict will be pronounced by the people on November 5,” Trump said outside court on Thursday.

“This was a rigged decision from day one. With a conflicted judge who should never have tried this case. Ever. And we will fight for our Constitution. This is far from over.”

The verdict comes after six weeks of trial in Manhattan District Court, which largely kept Trump out of the campaign trial.
