Autopsy of 'American Idol' singer Mandisa completed, cause of death pending

An autopsy has been completed on the former American Idol star Mandisawhose unexpected death last week at the age of 47 left fans distraught, RadarOnline.com can confirm after consultation with the local medical examiner office.

The cause of death of the gospel singer who was found dead in her home in Franklin, Tennessee, is not yet known.

A spokesperson for the Davidson County Medical Examiner's Office said it could take eight to 12 weeks before the autopsy results are released.

Police in Franklin also tell us they are investigating the death and more information will be released Monday afternoon.

The medical examiner was initially unable to verify that the remains belonged to Mandisa, whose full name is Mandisa Hundley. Forensic tests had to be conducted to confirm her identity.

The Facebook account Mandisa posted a statement on Friday morning saying: “We can confirm that Mandisa was found deceased in her home yesterday.”

“At this time we do not know the cause of death or further details,” the message continued. “We ask for your prayers for her family and close circle of friends during this incredibly difficult time.”

Mandisa's father initially confirmed his daughter's death in a statement TMZ on Friday morning, expressing disbelief. The outlet reported that the singer had no known health issues.

David Piercethe chief media officer of Christian radio station K-Love, also commented on the Grammy winner's death on Friday morning.

He said that “Mandisa was going through a hard time, and she was vulnerable enough to share that with us, which helped us talk about our own struggles.”

“Mandisa's fight is over,” Pierce continued. “She is now with the God she sang about. While we grieve, Mandisa is home. We pray for Mandisa's family and friends and ask that you join us.”

Her account's Facebook statement honored the singer as “a voice of encouragement and truth for people around the world facing life's challenges.”

The artist talked about her struggle with depression The Wally Show in 2017.

She revealed that her song “Overcomer” marked the beginning of a downward spiral into severe depression, and that she even contemplated suicide.

During her time in season 5 of American Idol In 2006, Mandisa entered the Top 10 and eventually came ninth. She then released her debut album, True beautyin 2007, followed by several others.

She has said that her biggest musical influences are included Whitney Houston and Def Leppard.

Mandisa's fifth album, Victoriouswon the 2014 Grammy for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album.

She reportedly studied vocal jazz at American River College in California and later studied music at Fisk University in Nashville.
