Argentina vs Chile, odds, prediction, live stream: where to watch Copa America online, TV channel, start time

Defending champion Argentina has set its sights on a place in the Copa America quarter-finals on Tuesday, when a win over Chile at MetLife Stadium could take them to the knockouts with a game to spare.

The pair will meet in the crucial group stage at the venue of the 2016 Copa America final, when Chile defeated Argentina on penalties to win back-to-back titles. However, this game is expected to play out very differently. Lionel Messi's team then remains the favorite to take the lead in Group A beat Canada 2-0 in their opening match on Thursdaywhile Chile are in the middle of a heated battle for second place after a 0-0 draw against Peru on Friday.

Here's what you need to know before you tune in.

Group A prospects

Argentina is in first place for one match in the group stage and takes all three points against Canada. Chile are in second place with Peru after their draw, while Canada is the only team without a point so far in last place in Group A. Argentina can book a place in the quarter-finals with another win on Tuesday, combined with a draw between Peru and Canada earlier on Tuesday meant they will top the group with a match in hand.

Storylines

Chili: The two-time champions can take positives from being the dominant side in their 0-0 draw against Peru, but Chile will rue their missed opportunities as a desperate quest for points begins. They put just one of their 11 chances on target and missed several golden chances to score, including Alexis Sánchez's shot from close range in the 15th minute, raising questions about their ability to perform in attack. The good news from Friday's performance, however, is that 41-year-old goalkeeper Claudio Bravo was up to the task with four crucial saves against Peru and could potentially play a big role against Argentina.

Argentina: It all came down to Argentina on Thursday, who lived up to expectations against a young and fairly inexperienced Canadian side, but the reigning World Cup winners left a little to be desired on opening night. They took 19 shots and put nine on target, but could have increased the score even further by underperforming after posting more than three expected goals. Ultimately it may not matter as they have the quality to outperform anyone with the likes of Messi, Lautaro Martinez and Julian Alvarez around. That said, it feels like Argentina has yet to reach a level and at some point the team – and their spectators – will want to see that happen.

Prediction

It's difficult to bet against Argentina given the teams' recent form and available talent, so expect a combination of their talented attack to get the job done on Tuesday and put their previous meeting with Chile in New Jersey behind them. Choose: Chile 0, Argentina 2
