Alaska AirlinesThe flight attendants union said Friday it has reached a tentative labor agreement with the airline, ending a drought of new contracts for cabin crew who have been asking for pay increases for years.

Details of the deal, which was reached under federal mediation, were not immediately made public. It will be reviewed by the union leadership and then voted on by rank-and-file members, the Association of Flight Attendants said.

“Through our collective efforts, we were able to reach an agreement that provides quality of life and continued career growth with Alaska,” the airline said in a statement.

A day before, US airlinesThe flight attendants union said talks on a new contract had broken down and its members should prepare for a possible strike. However, a company spokeswoman said the two sides “have made good progress in negotiations this week, further contributing to the industry-leading proposal we have had on the table for months.”

United Airlines is also negotiating a new contract with its flight attendant union.

Strikes in the US airline industry are extremely rare. If no agreement can be reached, there may be a 30-day reflection period before a possible work stoppage.
