Euro 2024 has arrived and the group stage is now over. We started with 24 teams but are down to 16 as the top two teams from each group and four third-placed teams form the field for the opening knockout stage. The action starts on Saturday and there will be two games a day until Tuesday.
All of the tournament’s main contenders emerged relatively unscathed from the group stage, although the round was not without a few surprises. Although France and Belgium both advanced, neither won their groups, with Austria and Romania respectively taking home the honours. The shake-up has seen the European Championships feature a handful of heavyweight matches earlier in the tournament than expected, with France versus Belgium the likely highlight of the round of 26.
